Lagos (INVESTADVOCATE)-The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) Friday closed on a bearish note as All-Share Index (ASI) declined by 0.47 percent (0.47%) to close at 38,738.15 according to the NSE’s weekly stock market report.
Similarly, the market capitalization of listed equities at the NSE depreciated by 0.47% to close at N12.390 trillion.
The NSE weekly stock market report affirmed that four (4) of the indices appreciated during the week; while another four (4) depreciated: NSE Insurance, NSE Oil/Gas, NSE Industrial Goods and NSE ASeM indices rose by 2.02%, 1.84%, 2.00% and 0.25%, respectively. However, NSE 30, The NSE Consumer Goods, NSE Banking and NSE Lotus II indices slipped by 0.87%, 2.70% ,0.92% and 1.09% respectively.
In terms of turnover, 2.266 billion shares worth N19.008 billion in 25,853 deals were traded this week by investors on the floor of the Nigerian Bourse compared to a total of 2.168 billion shares valued at N24.442 billion that exchanged hands last week in 26, 443 deals.
The NSE reported that the Financial Services Industry (measured by volume) led the activity chart with 1.398 billion shares valued at N8.989 billion traded in 11,930 deals; thus contributing 61.67% and 47.29% to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.
According to the NSE’s weekly stock market report, the Conglomerates Industry followed with a turnover of 493,947 million shares worth N2.225 billion in 3,200 deals; contributing 21.80% and 11.71% to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.
While the Oil and Gas Industry came third with 90,408 million shares worth N941.272 million in 2,728 deals.
‘Trading in the top three equities namely Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc, Unity Bank Plc and WAPIC Insurance Plc (measured by volume) accounted for 1.044 billion shares worth N2.550 billion in 3,645 deals, contributing 46.08% and 13.41% to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively’ the NSE reported.
Also, 50 equities appreciated in prices during the week higher than 34 of the preceding week, while 26 equities depreciated in prices lower than 48 equities of the preceding week.
However, 122 equities remained unchanged lower than 116 equities of the preceding week.
Report on the Over-the-Counter (OTC) MARKET FOR Federal Government (FGN) bonds shows that turnover of 75.036 million units valued at N74.045 billion in 322 deals were recorded this week in compared to 142.973 million units valued at N154.976 billion in 771 deals recorded in the preceding week ended November 29TH, 2013.
