The Nigerian Senate will on Thursday, March 20, 2014 begin the formal screening of Mr. Godwin Emefiele,GCEO of Zenith Bank Plc; President Goodluck’s preferred nominee to replace Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The information to this effect was contained in Tuesday’s Senate Notice Paper against Thursday where the Senate leader, Victor Ndoma-Egba, was scheduled to formally move the motion for the screening and confirmation of the nominee.
Amendment of CBN Act Commences
An amendment to the CBN Act was formally introduced in the Senate today which seeks in the main to empower the Executive President to appoint any person of high integrity as chairman of the Board subject to the confirmation of the Senate.
The amendment equally seeks to, amongst other, remove a sitting CBN Governor from being the Chairman of the CBN Governing Board; and in the main ensure that all
CBN Governors are answerable to the CBN’s board chairman; both appointees of the president.
