Lagos (INVESTADVOCATE)- Brazil on Thursday beat Croatia 3-1 in Sao Paulo at the opening match of the 2014 FIFA world cup.
Croatia opened scoring at the thick of the first half; but shortly before the end of the half, Neymar equalised.
Both teams tied at one goal apiece at half time, when the second half resumed, it was a dingdong affair, half way into the game the referee gave a penalty to Brazil which Nemyar converted. However, football spectators cried foul at the referee’s decision to award the penalty to Brazil.
The third goal by Oscar was an interesting one as he slotted in from the left flank. The goal was well applauded by spectators.
This is coming on the heels of protest in Brazil as protesters in the country have been vocal and vigilant in voicing their displeasure at the money spent on hosting the World Cup instead of using it for education or health care.
