Lagos (INVESTADVOCATE)-President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday unveiled the new 100 naira note to commemorate Nigeria’s centenary celebration. This is to mark Nigeria amalgamation which held in 1914.
Godwin Emefiele, governor of Central Bank of Nigeria said the new note was launched to mark Nigeria’s 100 years of amalgamation.
Emefiele say countries issue new currencies to mark an epoch event; naming Russia, Morocco and Costa Rica among others.
According to the CBN’s governor, the new 100 naira note was produced with the most advanced security features globally. “It’s durable, attractive, has our cultural heritage and transformational,” he said.
The CBN governor affirmed that the new 100 naira note has a Quick Response Code (QRC) feature on the back. “The code if scanned with smart phones, leads users to a website where the nation’s history could be accessed,” he said.
