NSE Opens Week Bearish, Y-t-D Loss Decline 26.22%

Lagos (INVESTADVOCATE)-The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) on Monday opened the week on a bearish note as Year-to-Date (YtD) loss declined to 26.22 percent; while current Month-to-Date (MtD) stands at 11.73 percent.

At the end of the session sell-offs in the Consumer Goods, Banking and Industrial sectors led the market to its sixth consecutive losing session, according to a Cordros market update.

The all-share index (ASI) at the Nigerian bourse dipped 0.88 percent to close at 30,492.30 points, while market capitalisation lost N89.50 billion to close at N10.07 trillion.

In terms of sectoral performance, three (3) out of the five (5) Sectoral indices declined while two appreciated.

The Consumer Goods index topped the losers’ chat with a 1.58 percent decline. The Banking and Industrial goods index followed suite with a 1.45 percent and 0.39 percent depreciation respectively. While the Insurance and Oil/Gas indices climbed up 1.52 percent and 1.22 percent respectively.

Market breadth at the Nigerian equities market closed the session on a negative note; as the bourse recorded 34 losers and 15 gainers.

Turnover in the review period shows that volume traded went down by 4.60 percent to 372.64 million shares, worth N3.01 billion and exchanged in 4,179 deals.

“The bears are expected to persist tomorrow as uncertainties remain,” a Cordors daily update affirmed.
