Access Bank, a leading African financial institution, has reiterated its commitment to encouraging financial literacy amongst Nigerian youths.
Speaking at a session which held at the Greensprings School, Anthony Campus, Lagos on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 in commemoration of the 2015 Global Money week, Mr. Victor Etuokwu, Executive Director, Personal Banking Division, noted that Access Bank has pioneered a number of industry defining financial literacy initiatives aimed at promoting awareness for Financial Inclusion and Literacy amongst women, small and medium scale entrepreneurs (SMEs) and more especially children and schools in Nigeria.
During the session with the theme “Save Today, Safe Tomorrow”, Mr. Etuokwu said, “Several years ago we launched Nigeria’s first fun-filled interactive financial literacy campaign for kids, parents and educators with the Access Early Savers campaign. This shows that we have always been involved in empowering young ones”.
The program on financial literacy, he stressed, demonstrates the Bank’s commitment to the activation of its financial inclusion strategy which seeks to cater for the unbanked in the society, and followed the successful introduction of several innovative banking products for this age range.
He also spoke to the students about the importance of money, cultivating a savings culture and the need to invest money in different ways for the future. The session was very interactive and educative, with the students asking questions and participating fully.
On Tuesday, March 17, 2015 another mentoring session for students took place at the Army Children School, Bonny Camp, Lagos. Adeola Kusemiju, Head, Products and Segments, Personal Banking Division, encouraged the students to be accountable, financially aware and empowered to save and make monetary decisions. She also expounded on the significance of financial literacy to fiscal independence and economic sustainability of Nigeria.
The Global Money Week is an annual international money awareness celebration which holds on the second week of March every year. Global Money Week engages children worldwide in learning how money works, including saving, creating livelihoods, gaining employment, and entrepreneurship.
Access Bank has been an active participant in the celebration of the Global Money week over the years and this year’s celebration was not an exception. Access Bank in line with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Bankers’ Sub-committee on
Financial Literacy and Public Enlightenment organised series of events to mark the 2015 Global Money Week awareness program.
