Olalekan Saliu Exits Flour Mills as Company Secretary

Lagos (INVESTADVOCATE)-Flour Mills of Nigerian Plc (FMN) on Tuesday announced the retirement of Olalekan Saliu as company secretary with effect from Thursday December 31, 2015; while he remains on FMN’s board as a non-executive director, the company said in an issuer’s announcement with the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE).

The Fast Consumer Moving Goods (FCMG) says its board has approved the appointment of Joseph Odion Umolu as the new company secretary with effective January 1, 2016.

According to the FMN, Umolu prior to his new appointment was the company’s head of Legal Services.

The company says Umolu holds an Upper Second Class Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy from the University of Ibadan and an Upper Second Class Honours Degree in Law of the University of Lagos. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in October, 2000 and subsequently obtained a Master’s degree in Law from the University of Lagos.Umolu’s career in corporate legal practice cuts across both the private and public sectors. He served as a counsel in Gocuz Chambers where he was the managing counsel before joining the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority as seniour legal officer in 2003.

Thereafter, he proceeded to the Legal Department of Union Bank of Nigeria Plc where he rose to the position of a manager. He began his career with FMN as manager, Legal Services in January 2012 and was elevated to head the group’s Legal Department. In addition, he also assisted the company secretary and served as the group’s compliance officer.

Paul Gbededo, FMN’s group managing director whilst noting the board’s recognition of Saliu’s meritorious service and outstanding contributions to the growth and development of Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc, said the board wishes to express appreciation to the out-going company secretary, “We welcome Joseph Umolu, a professional with sound knowledge and wide experience as our new company secretary. We believe he brings in great potentials to support the growth of our company, enhance corporate governance practices as well as the effectiveness of our company’s secretarial functions,” Gbadebo said.
