New York (INVESTADVOCATE)-The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) on Friday ended the week on a negative note as the all-share index (ASI) and market capitalisation declined 3.98 percent for the fourth consecutive week to close at 27,659.44 points and N9.500 trillion respectively.
“Similarly, all other Indices finished lower during the week, with the exception of the NSE Consumer Goods Index that gained 0.89 percent. While the NSE ASeM Index closed flat,” according to the NSE’s weekly stock market report.
At the close of the week’s trading on the domestic bourse, a turnover of 1.350 billion shares worth N9.287 billion in 18,679 deals were traded compared to a total of 1.149 billion shares valued at N13.616 billion that exchanged hands last week in 21,868 deals.
According to the report, the Financial Services Industry measured by volume led the activity chart with 1.148 billion shares valued at N4.861 billion traded in 11,668 deals; thus contributing 85.01 percent and 52.34 percent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively. The Conglomerates Industry followed with 73.190 million shares worth N238.895 million in 1,058 deals. The third place was occupied by the Consumer Goods Industry with a turnover of 60.336 million shares worth N2.409 billion in 3,041 deals.
The NSE reports that transactions in the shares of lenders, Skye Bank Plc, United Bank for Africa Plc and financial HoldCo, FBN Holdings Plc measured by volume accounted for 573.927 million shares worth N1.250 billion in 3,745 deals, contributing 42.51 percent and 13.46 percent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.
In terms of Exchange Traded Products (ETPs), traded during the week were a total of 11,420 units valued at N136,400.05 executed in 42 deals, compared with a total of 941 units valued at N2.646 million transacted last week in 22 deals.
On Bonds, a total of 13,550 units of Federal Government Bonds valued at N14.061 million were traded in six (6) deals compared to a total of 44,381 units of Federal Government Bonds valued at N44.679 million transacted last week in five (5) deals.
A summary of price changes in the review period shows that 15 equities gained in price during the week, lower than 22 reported last week. On the flipside, 44 equities lost in price, higher than 38 declared in the previous week, while 121 equities remained unchanged higher than 120 recorded in the preceding week.
