NSEASI Closes Friday in Green, Driven by Investors’ Appetite for Consumer Goods Stocks.

The NSE-ASI gained +0.19% in today’s trading session, but lost -1.12% WTD. 

CILEASING (+9.09%) topped the gainers’ chart, while UACN (-8.99%) was the worst performer.  

Market breadth index closed positive as 26 stocks gained against 14 stocks that declined.  

SOVRENINS was the most actively traded stock with c.1.58bn units of shares worth c.N788m. 

Sector Performance  

·         NSE Banking Index: losses in ACCESS (-1.62%) and GUARANTY (-0.23%) offset gains in FBNH (+4.23%) and ZENITHBANK (+0.33%) to drive the sector performance somewhat flat (-0.01%). 

·         NSE Industrial Index: dipped -0.19% on the back of losses in BETAGLAS(-5.00%) and FIRSTALUM (-3.85%). 

·         NSE Oil and Gas Index: Closed today’s trading session flat. 

·         NSE Consumer Goods Index: Up by +0.62% following gains in PZ (+5.00%) and NB (+0.47%)

Market Insight 

For the second consecutive trading session, the ASI closed the day in the green following investors’ appetite for Consumer Goods stocks. Going forward, we could see the market trade sideways as investors may continue to react to the recent deletion and reclassification of some Nigerian stocks on the MSCI frontier index.
