Nigerian Equities Inch up 0.02%, Driven by Bellwether Stocks

The NSE-ASI closed somewhat flat today, gaining +0.02% in today’s trading session. 

UNILEVER (+5.69%) topped the gainers’ chart, while GLAXOSMITH (-9.70%) was the worst performer.  

Market breadth index closed negative as 17 stocks gained against 23 stocks that declined.  

UBN (+0.81) was the most actively traded stock with c.70m units of shares while DANGCEM led the market in terms of value with c.N1.1bn.  

Sector Performance

·         NSE Banking Index: Gained +0.24% on the back of gains recorded in ZENITHBANK (+1.28%) and UBA(+1.04%). 

·         NSE Consumer Goods Index: Advanced +0.27%  on account of rise in UNILEVER (+5.69%) and NESTLE (+3.08). 

·         NSE Insurance Index: Closed positive  +0.20%  due to rise in LINKASSURE (+4.92%) and WAPIC (+4.00). 

·         NSE Industrial Index: The sector was flat in today’s trading session. 

·         NSE Oil and Gas Index: The sector was flat in today’s trading session.

Market Insight 

The equities market closed somewhat flat today. This was a result of mixed movement in some large and mid-cap stocks such as NESTLE, ZENITHBANK, UNILEVER,  NB, GLAXOSMITH, among others.. However, we remain optimistic on stocks in our recommended list and advise entry into them.
