Nigerian Equities Gains +0.01%, Driven by FIRSTHOLDCO, GUINNESS

EQUITIES

The domestic equities market closed today’s session on a bullish note, as gains in GUINNESS (+10.0%) and FIRSTHOLDCO (+4.2%) drove the All-Share Index higher by 1bp to 149,459.11 points. As a result, the Month-to-Date and Year-to-Date returns settled at +4.1% and +45.2%, respectively.

The total volume traded advanced by 85.2% to 1.03 billion units, valued at NGN21.83 billion, and exchanged in 23,701 deals. ACCESSCORP was the most traded stock by volume and value at 385.83 million units and NGN7.72 billion, respectively.

Sectoral performance was mixed as the Insurance (+0.4%) and Consumer Goods (+0.2%) indices advanced, while the Banking (-0.3%), Industrial Goods (-0.1%) and Oil & Gas (-0.1%) indices declined.

As measured by market breadth, market sentiment was positive (1.2x), as 30 tickers gained relative to 26 losers. ALEX (+10.0%) and GUINNESS (+10.0%) led the gainers, while HMCALL (-9.9%) and LIVINGTRUST (-9.1%) posted the most significant losses of the day.

CURRENCY

The official FX rate depreciated by 0.3% to NGN1,456.95/USD.

MONEY MARKET & FIXED INCOME

The overnight lending rate contracted by 5bp to 22.7%, following inflows of NGN537.75 billion from OMO maturities. 

The NTB secondary market traded on a quiet note albeit with a bullish tilt as the average yield contracted by 1bp to 17.4%. Across the curve, the average yield contracted at the short (-1bp), mid (-1bp) and long (-1bp) segments, driven by the demand for the 86DTM (-1bp), 177DTM (-1bp) and 359DTM (-1bp) bills, respectively. Similarly, the average yield contracted by 31bps to 21.8% in the OMO segment.

Elsewhere, the FGN bond secondary market traded with bearish sentiments, as the average yield expanded by 12bps to 16.6%. Across the curve, the average yield expanded at the short (+33bps) end, due to sell pressures on the JAN-2026 (+234bps) bond but closed flat at the mid and long segments.
