The Chairman, Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council, Mr. Olakunle Olaitan, said on Wednesday that the Federal Government had provided “cash backing” for the implementation of the new salary structure.

Olaitan told the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja that the Federal Government was sincere about its promise to pay the arrears from July.

He said that the rumour making the rounds that the Federal Government was delaying the implementation for a purpose was false.

He said, “As I am talking to you now, the warrant has been signed and forwarded to the Office of the Accountant- General of the Federation, and it will be implemented accordingly.

“The warrant captured July to September and this tells you that the arrears have been captured also for the payment.

“I want to say that the speculations are baseless and unfounded; we have a credible president, who has the interest of workers at heart. ‘‘

Olaitan said that the level of input to ensure the implementation of the new salary was credible enough to avoid confusion, noting, “And I am saying it authoritatively that the salary has been programmed for payment.”

“The only person, who can say that there is no cash backing for the implementation of the salary increase is the Accountant-General of the Federation, and he has not said so.‘‘
