THE Department of Petroleum Resources has sealed off 21 filling stations in Akwa Ibom State for selling petrol above the Federal Government’s approved pump price of N65.

The DPR Operation Controller in the state, Mr. Francis Umoeka, disclosed this on Saturday during a tour of some filling stations within the state capital, Uyo, and two other local government areas, Eket and Oron.

Umoeka said that most of the affected filling stations had adjusted their pumps thereby under-dispensing fuel to the tune of 2.8 litres for every 10 litres of petrol bought by consumers.

He said that independent marketers were trying to create artificial scarcity by selling petroleum products above the Federal Government approved rate.

Our correspondent observed long queues at most filling stations in Uyo, the state capital on Sunday, where most of the independent marketers had allegedly adjusted the pump price of petrol to N100 per litre.

The situation was the same in Eket and Oron on Saturday as majority of independent marketers sold petrol between N95 and N100 per litre.
