Lagos (INVESTADVOCATE)-There was a fire scare Monday December 13 2010 at the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) in Lagos Nigeria.

This resulted in Occupants of the building including Dealing Members abandoning their trading on the Floor and scampered for safety.

It was confirmed the incident occurred during the delivery of diesel for the use of The Exchange, during which the pumping machine used in taking the delivery caught fire.

However, the Management of the Exchange in a Statement Monday December 13 2010 by Wole Tokede Senior Manager, Corporate Communications of the NSE and made available to investadvocate confirmed there was a  minor fire incident on the ground Floor of the Stock Exchange Building located  at 2/4 Customs Street, Lagos Island.

“The Exchange is pleased to inform the investing public that no life was lost, no injury was sustained and there was no destruction to the property and equipment of The Exchange. Trading activities went on smoothly after the incident” the Statement said.

The NSE further affirmed that Anchor Properties, the Property Managers in charge of the building and some staff of The Exchange combined to put off the fire before any damage could be done.

According to the Exchange, this was done even before the arrival of Fire Fighters from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Union Bank Plc (UBN) and those from Lagos State Government.  “We are grateful to all of them” the Statement affirmed.
