The International Fund for Agricultural Development has approved $27.2m as loan to farmers in the country under the Rural Finance Institution Building Programme.
Dr Steve Ogidan, IFAD Consultant and Team Leader of the 1st Joint IFAD/FGN Supervision Mission of the RUFIN programme, said this on Tuesday in Gusau during the wrap up meeting of the mission.
Ogidan identified the 12 states participating in the programme to include Adamawa, Anambra, Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Benue, Edo, Imo, Katsina, Lagos, Oyo, Nasarawa and Zamfara.
He said that the programme was aimed at alleviating poverty with particular focus on women, youths, and physically challenged people who are farmers in the rural areas across the participating states.
According to him, RUFIN will develop and strengthen microfinance institutions in the country to ensure the achievement of the set objective of the programme.
