Lagos (INVESTADVOCATE)-Arunma Oteh, the Director General (DG) Nigeria’s Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) affirmed Tuesday March 15 2011 that the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) Contact Centre would celebrate and boost investors’ confidence.
Oteh made this affirmation at the official launch of the Nigeria’s Exchange newly introduced Contact Centre at the Stock Exchange House in Lagos Nigeria.
“I also believe that it is significant that this launch is happening on a day that allover the world, Consumers Rights are being celebrated and Consumers are being appreciated†she said.
She affirmed that it is important as the Nigerian Capital Market (NCM) Regulators continue to enhance investors confidence; that there should be an easily accessible way that individual investors can seek to have their questions answered and lodge complaints; including Capital Market Operators.
“We believe at the Securities and Exchange Commission that there would be no Capital Market without investors and the Capital Market flourishes because there are investors†she said.
“Oteh further affirmed that they at SEC believe if they are able to protect investors; Nation’s Capital Market would flourish and be truly transformative for our Country Nigeria.
On his part, Emmanuel Ikazoboh, Interim Administrator of the NSE affirmed that the newly launched Contact Centre is a facility that allows interface of information between the Nigeria’s Exchange and investors as well as other Stakeholders.
He said that the Exchange came up with the idea of establishing the Contact Centre to improve on its interface with the investing public and other stakeholders. “ The investing public and other stakeholders are expected to phone in; to make enquiries on important issues about the Market as they affect them from 7.45 am to 6.00 pm Monday to Friday on 07002255673†Ikazoboh said.
According to him, the Contact Centre is meant to serve as the first point of contact for the investing public and other stakeholders with the Nigeria’s Exchange. “The staff members manning the centre are expected to receive enquiries, complaints or suggestions from the investing public as well as Stakeholders†he said.
The Nigeria’s Exchange Interim Administrator said that to drive maximum benefit from the Centre, in addition to English Language, Callers are free to use any of the three major Nigerian languages of Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba to make enquiries or launch complaints.
Ikazoboh said that the Centre has been equipped with the best and latest telecommunications gadgets to meet the challenges of today’s communications needs.
“It is our believe that the commissioning of this Contact Centre today would help to further buoy investor confidence in our Market†he said.
