Update: Aftermath Of Subsidy Withdrawal: Labour, Government Begin Talks

nlc mass protestLeaders of Nigerian labour unions and representatives of the federal government are holding discreet talks in Abuja this morning in order to resolve the dispute occasioned by the sudden withdrawal of subsidy on petroleum products, THEWILL can authoritatively report.

A source privy to the talks said the meeting is the first in a series of talks that would calm nerves over the heated subsidy issue.

Edo state Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole is leading the effort to ensure that both parties reach a settlement in order to avert a planned nationwide strike scheduled for next Monday.

But in a telephone chat with THEWILL after the meeting, the Edo State Governor denied that he had a meeting with anyone. He however said that channels were being explored to see that both government and labour resolved their differences, and when we asked whether their was any chance Monday’s strike would be averted, Oshiomhole said, ” That will be a miracle.”
