Lagos (INVESTADVOCATE)-Tunde Bakare, Convener of Save Nigeria Group (SNG) Wednesday called on the Nigerian Parliament to impeach President GoodLuck Jonathan for stealing from the Nigerian Treasury.

Bakare made this call at the Freedom Square in Ojota Lagos Nigeria where Civil Societies and Organised Labour have mobilised Nigerians to protest peacefully the removal of fuel subsidy by the Jonathan led administration.

He affirmed that in year 2007, subsidy has been N300 billion on a yearly basis; until year 2011 it was N240 billion; but was jerked up to N1.3 trillion by President Jonathan to mobilise funds to sponsor his election.

“In 2007, subsidy was N300 billion every year; until 2011 it has been N240 billion, but because of election year, the President by himself without any budget, without telling the Governors, without telling the Senate spent a total of N1.3 trillion on subsidy, they took the money before they paid it to Federation Account.

Today, we are asking the National Assembly to impeach Mr. President for illegal deduction, he has stolen our Money, he has given it to his people, Nigerians are asking for his impeachment, if the National Assembly will do their duty, time has come, the President has committed an impeachable offence for taking money before paying into the Federation Account and for spending it before the budget, it is not within the budget. Right now, we are asking for our money back, they paid these subsidies to those who sponsored their elections, and Nigerians are wiser now” he said.

Bakare further said since Nigerians cannot get justice in the Court of Law, “we stand in the Court of the People and we ask the National Assembly to impeach Mr. President for deducting money illegally and for stealing the resources of Nigeria, we are ready to match them with documents in our hands; because we are not lying, it is time to say no to oppressors, it is time to say no to Legislators, they are living fat at our expense and I want to tell you there is no personal agenda in this matter, it is not a political matter, it is not CPC matter, it’s not PDP matter, it is a Nigerian matter, the Nigerian people are saying no more oppression” he said.

“Jonathan leave us alone, you have stolen our resources, you have misapplied our funds, you have no competence, you have no capability, you are full of corruption and Nigerian People say no to Jonathan, we move the motion; the National Assembly must impeach him, the impeachment process must start for illegal deduction of money from our resources” Bakare said.

According to him, the budget of year 2012 is N4.749 trillion, “the past budget what did they do with it?, during obasanjo’s eight (8) years in power, over N800 billion was voted for road construction and maintenance, there are no roads today” he said.

Bakare said $800 million was budgeted for turnaround maintenance of Nigeria’s Refineries and nothing was being done with the money; leading to the current suffering of the Nigerian masses.

“They budgeted $800 million for turnaround maintenance and they did not maintain our Refineries, we are back to square one, this budget they have been voting is for the Government, by the Government and for themselves, it is not for us therefore, they cannot punish us in order to sustain this budget” the Save Nigeria Group Convener said.

President Jonathan Wednesday was quoted by Bakare as saying that he was ready for mass revolt in Nigeria and was ready to die.

“We are now telling him that no retreat, no surrender, by 9.00 am tomorrow we would come back and continue the protest, no to Jonathan’s Government, they must account for the N1.3 trillion that they took out of our budget, it is time to occupy Nigeria” Bakare said.
