Union Bank Notifies Nigeria’s Exchange on appointment of new Directors

Lagos (INVESTADVOCATE)-Union Bank of Nigeria Plc has notified the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) of the appointment of new Directors to the Board of the Bank.

This was contained in a Notice to the Nigeria’s Exchange Tuesday and obtained by www.investadvocateng.com in Lagos Nigeria.

“The Bank has notified The Exchange of the appointment of Mr. Richard L. Kramer, Dr. Yemi Osindero, Chief Dickie Agumba Ulu, Engr. Mansur Ahmed and Chief (Dr.) Mrs. Nike Akande on its Board” the Notice said.

Kramer is the Chairman of African Capital Alliance (ACA) which has pioneered the management of private equity investments in high potential sectors of the Nigerian economy. He came to Nigeria in 1978 to launch Arthur Anderson & Co. as Managing Partner after similar roles in Brussels and Buenos Aires. The two successor firms – KMPG Professional Services and Accenture – are today the leading accounting and tax firms in Nigeria.

Kramer retired in 1994 but continued in Nigeria to consult, invest and continue community service activities. He helped in establishing the Nigerian Economic Summit Group, the Harvard Business School Association of Nigeria, the Lagos Business School and more recently the American Business Council. He was also head of the Technical Team and a member of Vision 2010 and currently serves as Trustee for Ikoyi Club 1938. He was honored in 2001 with the national merit award of Officer of Order of the Federation (OFR), in 2003 with the Zik Prize in Leadership and in 2007 with the Institute of Directors award for Entrepreneurship. He is married with two sons and 3 grandchildren.

Osindero is an inspiring business leader, distinguished by strong analytical and communication skills, he is a team player and can motivate team members to turn vision into reality. He has B.Eng. (Hon), Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering with First Class Honors from the University of Bath in 1997. He also has a Ph.D., Chemical Engineering from the same University in 2000. He has worked as Senior Analyst, Investment Banking Division at Goldman Sachs – 1999 – 2002; Associate, Hawk point Partners Ltd, 2002 – 2004; Investment Manager, Virgin Management Ltd, 2004 – 2005; Founder and Head, Corporate Development – Virgin Nigeria Airways, 2005 – 2006; Director, Marketing and Corporate Division, Virgin Nigeria Airways, 2006 – 2006; Chief Operating Officer, Virgin Nigeria Airways, 2006 – 2008 and Director, Head West Africa Private Equity, Standard Chartered Private Equity, 2009 – date.

Dr. Osindero, an expert in Corporate Finance and Mergers & Acquisition has handled and headed many high net worth transactions.

Ulu, 74 years old, attended Farnborough College, Hants, UK where he obtained and HND in Business Administration in 1978. In 1979 he obtained Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK; Diploma in Risk/Crisis Management for Senior Managers, City Business University, London – 1982; Certificate of Risk Management & Conflict Resolution, University of Strathclyde, Scotland – 1989; Certificate in Risk Assessment & Control, Institute of Risk Management, London – 1991; Advanced Certificate in Human Resource Management & Organizational Designs, London School of Economics, 1990 – 1991; MA, Marketing Management (Strategic Planning & Control for Crisis Management) University of Greenwich, Business School, West Mailing, Kent, London, 1996 – 1998.

Mr. Ulu has worked in several reputable organizations and presently a Development Consultant to Global Utilities Management Company. He has also engaged in several national assignments, attended many conferences/seminars and retreats. He is married with two children.

Ahmed, Born on June 10, 1948 at Dambatta, Kano State, has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Nottingham University in 1972 and a Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering and Administration from Cranfield Institute of Technology (now Cranfield University) in 1975. He also has a post graduate Certificate in Investment Appraisal and Management of Harvard Institute of International Development.

He began his working life in 1972 as a Research Assistant with Epsom Research Laboratories, UK. He later returned to Nigeria in 1973 and joined Ahmadu Bello University as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. He left the University after 3 years to commence a career in Industries and Commerce. Between 1976 and 1984 he worked in various manufacturing industries including Dunlop Nigeria Industries Ltd, Bagauda Textiles Ltd and Kaduna Textiles Ltd. Between 1979 and was Managing Director of Kaduna Textiles Ltd from 1982 to 1984.

In 1984 he joined the New Nigerian Development Company Ltd; in 1988 he went over the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation where he served from 1988 to 2003 in various capacities including Managing Director and Chief Executive of Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (1988 – 1991) and Managing Director of Port Harcourt Refining Company (1992 – 1999).

He is currently the pioneer Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC). Prior to his appointment to the ICRC, Ahmed was the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), a position he assumed in 2004, following his retirement from Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation. During his tenure as the CEO at the NESG, he worked to strengthen the platform for Public Private Dialogue in support of Economic Reforms and the creation of a sound policy and regulatory environment for the development of a strong, open, dynamic, private sector led and globally competitive economy. He is a fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Nigerian Institute of Management and member Institute of Directors.

Akande, (OON) was born on October 29, 1944. She is a Harvard trained professional and an accomplished industrialist. She attended Queen’s School, Ede from 1958 – 1962 and had her ‘A’ Level Programme at Queen’s College Lagos in 1963 before proceeding to the University Tutorial College London, where she completed her ‘A’ Level in 1964. She later attended North-Western Polytechnic London (now University of North London) from 1965 – 1968 where she studied Accountancy. She had postgraduate programme at the prestigious Harvard Business School, Boston, USA in 1990. She also has an advanced Management Course at International Institute for Management Development (IMD) in Lausanne, Switzerland in 1991.

Akande has vast experience which started in 1968 -1971 at James Owen Magee & Co. in London. On her return to Nigeria in 1971, she worked as an accountant with Assan Industries Nigeria Ltd where she rose to become an Executive Director in 1979. She was a two-time Minister of Industry in Nigeria and is a Director in several companies. She has served in many national and international organizations. Chief Akande is presently a director in PZ Cussons Nigeria Plc.
