Year 2011 Zik Prize: Governor Peter Obi last awardee standing

Lagos (INVESTADVOCATE)-Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State South East Nigeria Saturday emerged the last man standing at the year 2011 Zik price award for Good Governance.

Obi emerged one of the three (3) Governors in Nigeria that was nominated to receive the award.

The award was meant to encourage the development of patriotic leadership among Nigerians, Africans and all black peoples in the world.

It has drawn notable world leaders in the past, who recognise it as a veritable platform to earn National and International recognition in Political and Corporate Governance, especially in an era of severe leadership crisis and organisational deficiency across the globe.

Governor Obi who spoke to www.investadvocateng.com at the venue of the event said he was elated at the award and promised to use the remainder of his tenour to better the lots of the people of Anambra State; especially those in the rural areas.

A check by www.investadvocateng.com shows that most communities hitherto without basic necessities of life has been provided same by the Obi’s led administration in the State.

In the most remote villages of the State, electricity, pipe borne water, good roads, classroom buildings amongst others are now the hallmark of Peter Obi’s administration.

Also, Governor Obi is known for his zero tolerance on Corruption in the State; being careful on how the State resources are spent.

The Governor who is serving his second term came into power when he challenged Chris Ngige who took the oath of office and oath of allegiance contained in the Seventh Schedule to the Constitution on May 29, 2003.

Obi of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) challenged Ngige’s election in the election tribunal sitting at Awka, Anambra State capital and won.

However, Ngige appealed to the Court of Appeal, again, Obi won on Wednesday, March 15, 2006.

The Court of Appeal being a final Court in such matters as provided for in Section 246(3) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, the case ended with no further appeal.

Obi took the oath of office and oath of allegiance on Friday, March 17, 2006.

Other recipients of the award include Governors Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State, Ibrahim Shema, Katsina.

For Humanitarian Leadreship is Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin Kingdom; Aminu Dantata, Chairman Dantata Group for Business Leadership; Bisi Onasanya, Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, First Bank of Nigeria Plc and Prof. Barth Nnaji, the Minister of Power; both for Professional Leadreship respectively.

And Sirleaf Johnson of Liberia for Political Leadership; who was unavoidable absent; but promised to personally take her award at the Liberian Embassy anytime she visits Nigeria before the expiration of her tenour.

The Zik Prize in Leadership was set up in 1994 by the Public Policy Research and Analysis Centre, PPRAC, as part of annual activities in honour of late Nnamdi Azikiwe, the First President and Commander- in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
