United Bank for Africa Plc has said it will continue to broaden the spectrum of card services available to customers in a bid to provide convenience banking.

A statement by the bank on Friday said its customers could now leverage the growing global presence of UBA to ease the stress associated with business transactions and payments by roaming their money around the world with the UBA AfriCard, a Visa prepaid debit card variant.

AfriCard, according to the statement, is a naira denominated card that is pre-funded and re-loadable and is internationally accepted in all VISA acceptance points.

The statement quoted the Divisional Head, e-Banking, UBA, Dr. Yinka Adedeji, as saying AfriCard allowed customers to spend from their naira accounts in other currencies anywhere in the world.

“UBA AfriCard comes with a significant cost savings to the customer as it provides lower charges while card holders can spend up to $40,000 or equivalent per year outside Nigeria. The pre-paid card can be loaded via U-Direct for all UBA customers. It also enables card-to-card transfer,” he said.

Adedeji noted that AfriCard, which was set up without need for the customer to own a bank account with UBA, could be used on over one million ATMs and more than 30 million PoS terminals worldwide.
