The crisis rocking the power sector in the country today recorded a high profile casualty as the Minister of power, Prof Barth Nnaji who has been locked in a long drawn battle with workers unions in the sector tendered his resignation which was promptly accepted by President Goodluck Jonathan.

Details of what led to Nnaji’s resignation are still sketchy but sources close to him and those in the presidential villa, Abuja agreed that accusations and counter-accusations of corrupt dealings in the privatisation of Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN between the minister and labour unions contributed substantially to the fall of one of the brightest ministers in the Jonathan cabinet.

Nnaji’s resignation was confirmed by a statement from presidential spokesman, Reuben Abati quoting President Jonathan as thanking Prof. Nnaji “for his services to the nation under the present administration and wishes him well in his future endeavours.”
