Exchange Builds Capacity of Dealing Members

In line with its mandate of building the capacity of its Dealing Members, its workforce and the wider market participants, The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) at the weekend organised a one-day Continuous Professional Development session for Stockbrokers and some selected staff of The Exchange.
 
Speaking on the workshop, Head, Market Operations Department on The Exchange, Mr. Ikponmwosa Obaseki explained that the objective of the workshop was to provide practising stockbrokers with a strong grounding in the advanced functionalities of the Automated Trading System (ATS), a solid grounding on new products trading on the Exchange such as ETFs, new market structures such as market making, securities lending and short selling. A detailed overview of the retail bonds market structure that is being introduced by the Exchange was also provided, together with a comprehensive lecture on ethics required by stockbrokers.

The broad-based course also provided the audience with an opportunity to hone in their existing skills as well as deepen their knowledge of the new products and market services that have been introduced recently to the Exchange to deepen the market and improve liquidity.
He spoke further on the benefits of the workshop which he said aimed at keeping participant current with up to date information relevant to their field, build their confidence, enhance the professionalism of the working in the Nigerian Capital Market.

Participants in the one-day course were taken through topics such as “Introduction to the Trading Platform (X-Stream); Bonds (primary and secondary) Retail Trading; GTM, AON, WON, FOK and Shortcut keys. Other topics included “Ethics and Standards of Professional Conducts-A CIS Perspective; Trading on the ATS as well as Market Making and Securities Lending.
