Dr. Justus Clinton Uranta has bowed out as the Managing Director of Niger Insurance Plc, after 35 years of service in the insurance industry.
In a statement on Friday, the firm said this was in view of the fact that the insurance company had a good succession plan, which Mr. Kolapo Adedeji, the erstwhile deputy managing director would fill as he succeeds Uranta.
According to the statement read at the send-off organised for Uranta in Lagos recently, the former Niger Insurance boss, who become the chief executive officer of the company in 2005, said he voluntarily resigned from the organisation, having spent 35 years in the insurance industry.
He noted that the same scenario would have made him to retire if he was working in the public service.
However, due to the fact that the company’s Board of Directors was convinced that Uranta still had a lot to contribute to the insurance firm, the board decided to retain him as a director.
Uranta recalled that when he joined Niger Insurance in 1998, the company had 20 branches, adding that the number of marketing outlets had increased to 45, which were strategically spread across the country.
In a similar vein, he said the premium income generated by the underwriting firm in 1998 was about N199m, stressing that the company was already generating about N10bn premium, as he left.
He also expressed delight that Niger Insurance was one of the four leading insurance companies in Nigeria at present.
Some of his recent notable achievements at Niger Insurance included putting structures in place to ensure prompt payment of claims to policyholders, as a dedicated account was opened solely for claims and commission payment.
