Lagos (INVESTADVOCATE)-Banks Friday closed the week with deals worth N4.384 billion at the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) in Lagos Nigeria.
Weekly reports from the Nigerian Bourse shows that three (3) Banks, Zenith Bank Plc, Skye Bank Plc and Wema Bank Plc traded shares worth N4.384 billion to close the week.
According to the NSE, the Banking subsector was the most active during the week (measured by turnover volume): with 1.435 billion shares worth N11.904 billion traded in 12,764 deals.
Zenith, Skye and Wema Banks shares drove activities as investors traded 627.601 million shares worth N4.384 billion in 3,720 deals contributing 29.691 percent (29.691%) to the total equity turnover volume recorded during the week.
The above figure when compared to the previous week shows that value declined by 21% to close as the three (3) top equities recorded deals worth N4.384 billion to close the week compared to N3.635 billion reported last week.
Amongst the top three equities, two Banks namely Access Bank Plc, Diamond Bank Plc and IHS Plc (measured by turnover volume) accounted for 584.604 million shares worth N3.635 billion exchanged by investors in 3,165 deals contributing 26.68% to the total equity turnover volume recorded last week.
The Financial Services sector (measured by turnover volume) accounted for 1.759 billion shares valued at N14.642 billion traded by investors in 16,902 deals to close for this week compared to 1.599 billion shares valued at N15.013 billion traded by investors in 20,976 deals the previous week.
Similarly, the NSE All-Share Index declined by 520.17 points or 1.55% to close the week at 32,993.97, while the market capitalisation of the listed equities on the mainboard of the Exchange also decreased by 1.55% to close at N10.547 trillion.
In the same vein, the NSE 30 Index depreciated by 25.27 points or 1.58% to close at 1,574.85.
From the NSE’s weekly report, other NSE sectoral indices that depreciated during the week include; NSE Consumer Goods, NSE Banking, NSE Oil and Gas, NSE-Lotus II and NSE Industrial Goods by 1.43%,3.74%, 1.77%, 0.81% and 1.03% respectively. However, NSE Insurance appreciated by 1.03%.
On turnover, 2.114 billion shares worth of N26.678 billion in 27,624 deals were transacted this week by investors compared to a total of 2.191 billion shares valued at N24.942 billion that exchanged hands last week in 33,100 deals.
The NSE reported that at the close of trading activities for the week, Consumer Goods sector followed in the activity chart with 121.622 million shares valued at N9.411 billion traded in 4,391 deals.
