Lagos (INVESTADVOCATE)-The shares of Zenith Bank Plc, Unity Bank Plc and Skye Bank Plc has boosted activities at the Nigerian Bourse to close the week.
Weekly Reports from the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) on Friday and made available to InvestAdvocate shows that activities of these three (3) banks made the Banking subsector of the Financial Services sector the most active subsector on the week’s activity chart with a subsector turnover of 1.013 billion shares valued at N11.376 billion which exchanged hands by investors in 11,873 deals for the week ended June 07 2013.
This shows the Banking subsector accounted for 52.87 percent (52.87%) and 45.27% of the total subsector traded volume and value respectively.
According to the NSE’s weekly report, the Financial Services sector (measured by volume) led the activity chart with a turnover of 1.302 billion shares valued at N13.510 billion traded in 17,126 deals. “The Financial Services sector represented 67.93% and 53.76% of the total traded volume and value respectively†the report said.
Investors traded a turnover of 1.917 billion shares worth of N25.133 billion in 32,368 deals this week on the floor of the Nigerian Bourse compared to a total of 1.503 billion shares valued at N14.109 billion that exchanged hands last week in 24,007 deals.
On index movement, the NSE All-Share Index rose by 4.68% to close the week at 39,564.79. All except two (2) of the NSE indices appreciated during the week: NSE Consumer Goods, NSE Banking, NSE Insurance, NSE-Lotus II and NSE Industrial Goods advanced by 2.90%, 2.54%, 2.04%, 6.17%, and 6.59% respectively.
However, NSE Oil/Gas and NSE- Alternative Securities Market (ASeM) depreciated by 0.09% and 0.12% respectively.
While the market capitalisation of the listed equities on the mainboard advanced by 4.68% to close at N12.641 trillion. Also, the NSE 30 Index appreciated by 4.46% to close at 1,890.55.
Similarly, a summary of price changes for the week shows that 58 equities appreciated in prices during the week higher than 40 of the preceding week. 26 equities depreciated in prices lower than 36 of the preceding week, while 109 equities remained constant lower than 119 of the preceding week.
