Zenith Bank Appoints 2 New Directors

Lagos (INVESTAVOCATE)-Zenith Bank of Nigeria Plc has appointed two (2) new directors to its board.

The Bank in a recent notice to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) in Lagos Nigeria announced that it has appointed Ebenezer Onyeagwu, a general manager to executive director (ED) and Haruna Sanusi as an independent non-executive director.

According to Zenith Bank, both appointments have been confirmed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

This is coming on the heels of forthcoming retirement of the Bank’s two (2) EDs; Andy Ojei and Elias Igbinakenzua who will be retiring effective July 24, 2013; and in line with the bank’s succession plan.

Ebenezer Onyeagwu

Ebenezer Onyeagwu is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA) 2003 as well as an Alumnus of the University of Pennsylvania, USA (Walton Executive Education), Columbia Business School, University of Columbia, United States of America and the Harvard Business School.

Onyeagwu has over twenty two (22) years cognate banking industry experience. He worked as Credit Analyst in the defunct Financial Merchant Bank Limited where he held several management positions in the Bank ranging from Branch Head, Warri Branch and Ikoyi Branch respectively.

He joined Zenith Bank Plc in 2002 as a Senior Manager in the Internal Control and Audit Group of the bank and has served in various capacities as Assistant General Manager, in charge of coordination of strategies for Business Development and Relationship Management for Ikeja branch and Deputy General Manager, Zonal Head, Ikeja Zone, responsible for the supervision of twenty-five (25) branches of the bank within Ikeja, and Otta, Ogun State.

Until his appointment, he was the General Manager in charge of Commercial Banking Group as well as Ikeja Zone of the Bank.

Haruna Usman Sanusi Phd, OON, FCMA

Sanusi, a fellow of Chartered Institute of Management, graduated with B.sc (Social Sciences) from the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria in 1976. He holds a Masters’ Degree as well as Doctorate Degree (Ph.D.) both in Political Economy from the Northwestern University, Evanston, IIIinois, United States of America which were obtained in 1980 and 1982 respectively.

Sanusi served as a Research Fellow and Head of Social and Political Studies at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) Kuru between 1988 and 1991. He was a Senior Lecturer in Management Studies and Deputy Dean, Faculty of Social Science and Administration at the University of Sokoto (now Usman Dan Fodiyo University, Sokoto) from 1983 to 1988.

He was also the Pioneer Director, Revenue Allocation, National Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, The Presidency (April 1991 – August 1996), Director, Personnel Management, Office of the Principal Secretary to the Head of State and Commander-in-Chief, State House, (August 1996 – February, 1997), Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, Federal Ministry of Industry (March 1997 – January 2000), Director, Finance and Supplies, Federal Ministry of Education (January 2000 – April 2001).

Sanusi was a former Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Finance (2001 – 2005), Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Defence (2005 – 2009) as well as Permanent Secretary, Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federal (Establishment and Record Office) between February and August, 2009.

Sanusi is a Consultant on Organizational and Strategic Management and Policy Analysis as well as on international trade and investment relations. He is a member of the Order of the Niger (OON) and has published over thirty (30) learned articles, chapters and books on Management, Policy and Strategy.
