Lagos (INVESTADVOCATE)-The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) All-Share Index (ASI) rose by 0.43 percent (0.43%) to close on Friday at 36,403. 95. Similarly, the NSE 30 Index gained 0.49% to close at 1,697.70 the Exchange’s weekly stock market report said.
Also, other three (3) NSE indices appreciated in the course of the week: NSE Banking Index, NSE Lotus II and NSE Industrial Goods added 0.05%, 1.07%, and 0.29% respectively. However, NSE Consumer Goods, NSE Insurance, and NSE Oil/Gas depreciated by 0.31%, 0.19% and 0.35% respectively while NSE-ASeM closed flat.
The NSE weekly reported that the market capitalization of the equities on the main board also appreciated by 0.82% to close at N11.591 trillion.
In terms of turnover, 1.138 billion shares worth N14.130 billion in 24,122 deals were traded this week by investors on the floor of the Nigerian Bourse compared to a total of 1.490 billion shares valued at N14.832 billion that exchanged hands last week in 24,590 deals.
The Financial Services sector (measured by volume) led the activity chart with 704.560 million shares valued at N5.985 billion traded in 13,362 deals; thus contributing 61.89%, 42.35% and 55.39% to the total equity turnover volume, value and number of deals respectively.
While the Conglomerates sector followed with a turnover of 158.595 million shares worth N397.480 million in 1,117 deals, contributing 13.93%, 2.81% and 4.63% to the total equity turnover volume, value and number of deals respectively.
The Construction/Real Estate sector came third with 112.111 million shares worth N627.549 billion in 386 deals.
Trading in the top three (3) equities namely Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc (Transcorp), Arbico Plc and Guaranty Trust Bank Plc (GTBank) (measured by volume) accounted for 334.613 million shares worth N2.602 billion in 2,434 deals, contributing 29.39%, 18.41% and 10.09% to the total equity turnover volume, value and deals respectively.
In terms of price movement on the Nigeria’s Exchange to close the week, the NSE report said 38 equities appreciated in prices during the week higher than 27 of the preceding week.
Also, 43 equities depreciated in prices lower than 56 equities of the previous week, while 113 remained unchanged higher than 111 equities last week.
For over-the-counter (OTC) market for Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) bonds, a turnover of 114.942 million units valued at N119.524 billion in 470 deals were recorded this week compared to 105.623 million units worth N114.292 billion in 693 deals recorded in the previous week.
