Lagos INVESTADVOCATE)-The central bank of Nigeria (CBN) extended its cashless policy to 30 remaining states in the federation and has directed banks to commence enlightenment campaign in those states.

In a circular dated June 03, 2014, signed by Dipo Fatokun, director, banking and payments system department titled: ‘’Phase III Nationwide Rollout of Cashless Policy: Extension to 30 Remaining States’’ the Nigeria’s central bank said banks in the affected states are to immediately commence some activities as a prelude to the implementation of the initiative by July 01, 2014.

First among the activities is the enlightenment of their customers on the cashless policy, including the existing limits on cash withdrawal and deposit for individuals, and corporate bodies, as well as the available epayment options, training of their staff in the affected states on the policy, in order to provide answers to enquiries, give useful advice and handle issues and complaints on the policy.

Others are media communications by banks, to complement the existing CBN and bankers’ committee media and publicity campaigns, and engagement of banks’ key customers and other stakeholders in these states.

“All banks are to please ensure that their cash-less teams in the affected states liaise properly with the shared services office of the CBN, for necessary clarifications and further assistance, if required,’’ the circular said.

Prior to this time, the CBN commenced the initiative in Lagos in 2012 and was extended to the Federal Capital Territory, Kano, Rivers, Ogun, Abia and Anambra states, and this policy would by July 01, 2014 be rolled out in the remaining 30 states of the federation.
