Lagos (INVESTADVOCATE)-Citibank Nigeria Limited will tomorrow Wednesday September 24, 2014 hold the 2nd annual Citi Financial Journalist Training (CFJT) as part of activities marking its 30 anniversary in Nigeria.

An e-mail from the bank to InvestAdvocate reads thus: ‘’ The Citi Financial Journalists Training (CFJT) is a biennial program organised by Citi to promote professional Journalism in Nigeria.  Activities of the day will include sessions on interpreting and reporting on business, economic and financial news as well as writing newsworthy content. The seminar promises to be very informative and educative,’’ Citibank said.

As earlier reported, Citi committed more than  $560,000 to micro enterprises development in Nigeria as well as over  $2,000,000 towards the advancements of small and medium businesses in more than 28 countries of the world.

The bank had in August at the seventh Microentrepreneurship Awards ceremony in Abuja Nigeria honoured seventeen micro-entrepreneurs from across the country for their innovativeness in business.

The event took place as part of Nigeria’s Central Bank’s eighth yearly Microfinance Conference organised in partnership with the apex bank and the Growing Businesses Foundation (GBF).

At the event, Omar Hafeez, managing director (MD) Citibank Nigeria while highlighting the lender’s commitment to micro-entrepreneurship around the world said this year marks Citi’s 30th year of service to Nigeria and the bank remains committed and responsive to the strategic and economic initiatives of the country. ‘’For us at Citi, we understand that there is simply no substitute for innovation. Enabling progress is not just something we do, it’s who we are and our ability to do it better than anyone else is what sets us apart,’’Hafeez said.

Citi has been doing business in Nigeria since 1984; it earlier operated under the name Nigeria International Bank Limited, but was renamed to Citibank Nigeria Limited (Citi Nigeria) in 2008 to fully align with Citi’s global brand and identity.

The bank has a strategic business focus in Nigeria specialising mainly in Corporate Banking and servicing mostly corporate clients. Citi Nigeria offers a broad range of services, including global transaction services, sales and trading, corporate finance and investment banking services to corporate and commercial customers, financial institutions (including other banks) and public sector organisations.

Within the industry, Citi is known for its innovation as it has successfully leveraged its global network and extensive knowledge base to offer its Nigerian clients innovative products and services.
