From Middle East to Asia, the Great Migration of the Muslim Traveler

Earlier this week, the MasterCard-CrescentRating Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI) 2015 was launched, providing insights into one of the fastest-growing tourism sectors in the world today – the Muslim travel market. In-depth data covering 100 destinations is analyzed and developed into an overall index that provides travelers, governments, travel services and investors comprehensive benchmarks to track the health and growth of the Muslim travel segment.

The Index revealed that Malaysia and Singapore take the top spots for the OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation) and non-OIC rankings respectively. The Index also shows that there is a shift in where Muslim travelers are going, and that Asia is now the new hotspot for them with countries such as Japan and Thailand actively catering to this segment.
