Intraday Update: Nigerian Stocks Down -0.06% on Sell-Offs in Banking, Oil & Gas Counters

Lagos (INVESTADVOCATE)-As at midday Monday, the Nigerian Stock Exchange all-share index (NSEASI) is down by -0.06 percent; following sell-offs in the Banking and Oil & Gas indices.

InvestmentOne reports that market movers on the negative side are Honywell Flour Mills Plc and Japaul Oil & Maritime Services Plc both have plunged -9.64 percent and -8.63 percent apiece, while on the positive side is publisher of educational materials, University Press Plc and insurer, AIICO Insurance Plc both up by +6.87 percent and +6.56 percent respectively.

In terms of sector performances, the Banking and Oil & Gas indices are down by -1.29 percent and -0.03 percent each, while the Consumer Goods and Industrial Goods sectors both are up by +0.08 percent apiece.

InvestmentOne reports that market activity in today’s early trade, shows that total volume and total value declined by 41 percent and 88 percent respectively compared to this time last Friday, as investors have exchanged 32 million units of shares worth N174 million.

The update says McNichols Consolidated Plc with a loss of -8.16 percent is the most actively traded stock with 11.7 million units of shares accounting for about 36 percent of total volume.

“In the absence of a significant gain in DANGCEM, we may see the market print in red today if the sell-off in Banking and Oil & Gas sectors continues,” the InvestmentOne report affirmed.
