Lagos (INVESTADVOCATE)-The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) on Tuesday commissioned its new media lounge to enable financial market journalists carryout their duties effectively.

He employed journalists to make effective and judicious use of the lounge in covering the market objectively.

Responding to the gesture, Qasim Olalere Akinreti, president, Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ), Lagos Chapter at the commissioning of the media lounge thanked the NSE for the gesture; “but I will like to reopen two issues here,” he said.

Akinreti called on the NSE to help resuscitate the post graduate programme in financial journalism a course once offered at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ). “A couple of years back I once offered the course and I think after my set, the course existed no more and I would appreciate of you assist the Union to resuscitate the programme,” he said.

He also requested the NSE to bring up two people from the capital market that will help in teaching financial journalism at the NIJ. ” We are suggesting an operator in the market and a seasoned financial journalist,” the NUJ Lagos State chapter chairman added.

He also requested the NSE to help ensure financial market reporters register with the the NIJ, “registration is ongoing through the NIJ website and we have over 4,000 registered members and the portal will soon close, anybody that does not take advantage of this opportunity to register after the closure date is deemed as a fake journalist,” he said.
