President Muhammadu Buhari today signed into law the national minimum wage bill which prescribed a national minimum wage of N30,000 for Nigerian workers, by this action the bill now becomes an Act of Parliament. 

The bill which was earlier passed by the National Assembly, will now take effect from Thursday April 18, 2019. 

Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters, Senator Ita Enang, disclosed this development to State House correspondents. 

With the signing of the bill, Federal Workers in the country are expected to be the first beneficiaries of the increment. 

It will be recalled that President Buhari constituted a National Advisory Committee on Minimum Wage, Chaired by Mr Bismarck Rewane, MD/CEO Financial Derivatives, to which a report was submitted at the set  timeline. 

The National Council of  State also in a recent meeting chaired by the President approved a national minimum wage of  N27,000 for the 36 states, to which the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) protested. 

President of the NLC Comrade Ayuba P. Wabba warned that the Union would not accept disparity in payments between the Federal and State Governments.
