In today’s trade, market breadth index was negative with 22 losers against 17 gainers.
ETERNA (+10.00%) was the top gainer today, while NEM (-10.00%) led the losers.
GTCO (-0.53%) was the most actively traded stock with about 42 million units of shares worth about N1.55 billion.
Sector Performances
· NGX Banking Index: Declined by 0.44%, driven by the negative sentiment witnessed in FIDELITYBK (-3.95%), UNITYBNK (-2.90%) and JAIZBANK (-1.13%).
· NGX Consumer Goods Index: Surged by 2.42%, due to the gains recorded in VITAFOAM (+4.78%), BUAFOODS (+4.37%) and DANGSUGAR (+3.03%).
· NGX Oil and Gas Index: Rose by 0.36%, spurred by the increase in the price of ETERNA (+10.00%).
· NGX Industrial Index: Closed flat.

The local equities market recorded a negative performance today due to the losses recorded in AIRTELAFRI and the Banking sector. Going forward, we expect investor’s sentiments to be swayed by the search for real positive returns and developments in the interest rate space. We reiterate that this may be a great period to pick up some quality names with a medium to long-term investment horizon.
