EQUITIES
The local bourse closed on a higher note in today’s trading session, as gains in AIRTELAFRI (+10.0%), TRANSCORP (+3.6%) and GTCO (+1.5%), lifted the All-Share Index higher by 1.1% to 240,743.19 points. Consequently, the Month-to-Date and Year-to-Date returns settled higher at -3.9% and +54.7%, respectively.
The total volume traded advanced by 11.0% to 543.05 million units, valued at NGN38.71 billion and exchanged in 49,034 deals. FIDELITYBK was the most traded stock by volume at 59.37 million units, while MTNN was the most traded stock by value at NGN8.02 billion.
Sectoral performance was positive as the Insurance (+2.8%), Consumer Goods (+0.2%), Banking (+0.2%) and Industrial Goods (+0.1%) indices closed higher, while the Oil & Gas (-0.1%) index declined.
As measured by market breadth, market sentiment was positive (1.4x), as 32 tickers gained relative to 23 losers. GUINEAINS (+10.0%) and AIRTELAFRI (+10.0%) led the gainers, while REDSTAREX (-10.0%) and PREMPAINTS (-9.9%) posted the most significant losses of the day.
CURRENCY
The official FX rate depreciated by 0.2% to NGN1,371.00/USD.
MONEY MARKET & FIXED INCOME
The overnight lending rate expanded by 13bps to 22.3% despite inflows from FGN Bond coupon payments (NGN2.93 trillion).
The Treasury bill secondary market traded on a quiet note albeit with a bullish tilt as the average yield contracted by 1bp to 18.2%. Across the curve, the average yield contracted at the short (-1bp), mid (-1bp) and long (-1bp) segments, driven by demand for the 86DTM (-1bp), 177DTM (-1bp) and 359DTM (-1bp) bills, respectively. Similarly, the average yield contracted by 1bp to 21.1% in the OMO segment.
Elsewhere, the FGN bond secondary market closed on a quiet note, as the average yield remained unchanged at 16.7%.
