EQUITIES
The domestic bourse closed today’s trading session on a mildly positive note, as gains in FIRSTHOLDCO (+10.0%), MTNN (+1.2%), TRANSCOHOT (+8.4%) and STANBIC (+3.8%) caused the All-Share Index to close higher by 1bp to 241,761.23 points. Consequently, the Month-to-Date and Year-to-Date returns settled at +5.4% and +55.4%, respectively.
The total volume traded advanced by 21.3% to 634.78 million units, valued at NGN53.34 billion, and exchanged in 42,494 deals. FIRSTHOLDCO was the most traded stock by volume and value at 326.92 million units and NGN22.33 billion, respectively.
On sectors, the Banking (+2.3%) and Insurance (+0.5%) indices advanced, while the Consumer Goods (-1.0%) and Oil & Gas (-0.1%) indices declined. The Industrial Goods index closed flat.
As measured by market breadth, market sentiment was positive (1.1x), as 24 tickers gained relative to 21 losers. LEARNAFRICA (+10.0%) and FIRSTHOLDCO (+10.0%) led the gainers, while INTENEGINS (-9.9%) and LEGENDINT (-9.2%) posted the most significant losses of the day.
CURRENCY
The official FX rate remained unchanged at NGN1,378.00/USD.
MONEY MARKET & FIXED INCOME
The overnight lending rate expanded by 9bps to 22.2% in the absence of any significant inflows into the system.
The Treasury bill secondary market traded on a bullish note as the average yield contracted by 6bps to 18.4%. Across the curve, the average yield contracted at the short (-4bps), mid (-15bps) and long (-2bps) segments, driven by demand for the 51DTM (-29bps), 149DTM (-65bps) and 233DTM (-19bps) bills, respectively. Meanwhile, the average yield remained unchanged at 21.5% in the OMO segment.
The FGN bond secondary market closed on a quiet note albeit with a bullish tilt, as the average yield contracted by 1bp to 17.4%. Across the benchmark curve, the average yield contracted at the short (-12bps) end due to demand for the MAR-2027 (-57bps) bond, but expanded at the long (+6bps) end due to sell pressures on the MAR-2050 (+26bps) bond. The average yield closed flat at the mid segment.
