EQUITIES
The domestic bourse closed today’s trading session on a bearish note, as losses in FIRSTHOLDCO (-3.0%), NESTLE (-2.8%), UBA (-2.2%) and GTCO (-0.8%) caused the All-Share Index to close lower by 0.4% to 244,802.83points. Consequently, the Month-to-Date and Year-to-Date returns settled at -0.2% and +57.3%, respectively.
The total volume traded advanced by 69.3% to 1.56 billion units, valued at NGN28.73 billion, and exchanged in 54,160 deals. JAPAULGOLD was the most traded stock by volume at 904.42 million units, while MTNN was the most traded stock by value at NGN3.25 billion.
Sectoral performance was broadly negative, as the Consumer Goods (-1.3%), Banking (-1.3%), and Insurance (-1.1%) indices declined while the Oil & Gas (0.1%) index advanced. The Industrial Goods index closed flat.
As measured by market breadth, market sentiment was negative (0.3x), as 11 tickers gained relative to 39 losers. MULTIVERSE (-10.0%) and LIVINGTRUST (-10.0%) led the laggards, while AVACAP (+9.9%) and LIVESTOCK (+9.5%) posted the most significant gains of the day.
CURRENCY
The official FX rate appreciated by 0.1% to NGN1,364.19/USD.
MONEY MARKET & FIXED INCOME
The overnight lending rate contracted by 1bps to 22.1%, following inflows from Primary Market Repayment (NGN2.45 trillion).
The Treasury bill secondary market traded on a quiet note as the average yield closed flat at 18.2%. Elsewhere, the average yield contracted by 1bps to 21.3% in the OMO segment.
The FGN bond secondary market traded on a bullish note as the average yield contracted by 5bps to 16.7%. Across the curve, the average yield contracted at the short (-7bps) and mid (-11bps) segments, driven by buying interest in the AUG-2030 (-43bps) and APR-2032 (-26bps) bills. The average yield closed flat at the long end.
