EQUITIES
The local bourse closed today’s trading session on a bullish note, as gains in FIRSTHOLDCO (+5.4%), NESTLE (+0.6%), FCMB (+4.0%) and WAPIC (+5.5%) caused the All-Share Index to close higher by 4bps to 244,912.23 points. Consequently, the Month-to-Date and Year-to-Date returns settled at -0.2% and +57.4%, respectively.
The total volume traded declined by 47.3% to 824.06 million units, valued at NGN25.47 billion, and exchanged in 48,114 deals. FCMB was the most traded stock by volume at 369.24 million units, while FIRSTHOLDCO was the most traded stock by value at NGN5.68 billion.
Sectoral performance was mixed as the Banking (+0.7%) and Insurance (+0.7%) indices advanced, while the Consumer Goods (-0.4%) index declined. The Industrial Goods and Oil & Gas indices closed flat.
As measured by market breadth, market sentiment was negative (0.6x), as 18 tickers gained relative to 29 losers. LINKASSURE (+9.9%) and MCNICHOLS (+7.3%) led the gainers, while HONYFLOUR (-9.9%) and PZ (-9.9%) posted the most significant losses of the day.
CURRENCY
The official FX rate appreciated by 1bp to NGN1,364.06/USD.
MONEY MARKET & FIXED INCOME
The overnight lending rate contracted by 3bps to 22.1% in the absence of any significant funding pressure on the system.
The Treasury bill secondary market traded on a bullish note as the average yield contracted by 4bps to 18.1%. Across the curve, the average yield contracted at the short (-1bp), mid (-7bps) and long (-4bps) segments, driven by demand for the 92DTM (-1bp), 106DTM (-20bps) and 211DTM (-25bps) bills, respectively. Conversely, the average yield expanded by 3bps to 21.4% in the OMO segment.
The FGN bond secondary market closed on a bullish note as the average yield contracted by 3bps to 16.6%. Across the benchmark curve, the average yield contracted at the short (-3bps), mid (-7bps) and long (-2bps) segments, driven by buying interests in the ARP-2029 (-6bps), MAR-2036 (-18bps) and JUN-2038 (-8bps) bonds, respectively.
