EQUITIES
The domestic bourse closed today’s trading session on a bearish note, as losses in MTNN (-4.7%) and FIRSTHOLDCO (-1.4%) caused the All-Share Index to close lower by 0.7% to 246,723.56 points. Consequently, the Month-to-Date and Year-to-Date returns settled at +0.6% and +58.6%, respectively.
The total volume traded advanced by 270.4% to 3.91 billion units, valued at NGN32.38 billion, and exchanged in 45,608 deals. TRANSEXPR was the most traded stock by volume at 84.58 million units, while FIRSTHOLDCO was the most traded stock by value at NGN5.38 billion.
Sectoral performance was mixed, as the Consumer Goods (-1.0%) and Banking (-0.5%) indices declined while the Insurance (+0.2%) index advanced. The Industrial Goods and Oil & Gas indices closed flat.
As measured by market breadth, market sentiment was positive (1.0x), as 27 tickers gained relative to 26 losers. THOMASWY (-10.0%) and AVACAP (-9.6%) led the laggards, while UPDCREIT (+10.0%) and FTNCOCOA (+9.9%) posted the most significant gains of the day.
CURRENCY
The official FX rate depreciated by 0.3% to NGN1,364.79/USD.
MONEY MARKET & FIXED INCOME
The overnight lending rate remained unchanged at 22.1% despite inflows from OMO maturities (NGN2.48 trillion).
The Treasury bill secondary market traded on a bearish note as average yield expanded by 5bps. Across the curve, the average yield expanded at the short (+1bp) and mid (+16bps) segments driven by sell pressures on the 86DTM (+21bps) and 128DTM (+59bps) bills, respectively, but closed flat at the long end. Likewise, the average yield expanded by 2bps to 21.4% in the OMO segment.
Elsewhere, the FGN bond secondary market traded on a bearish note as the average yield expanded 10bps to 16.7%. Across the curve, the average yield expanded at the short (+22bps), mid (+4bps) and long (+3bps) segments, driven by selloffs of the MAR-2027 (+133bps), MAR-2036 (+12bps) and JUN-2038 (+23bps) bonds, respectively.
