EQUITIES
Bearish sentiments dominated the local bourse today as losses in ARADEL (-5.4%), UBA (-2.2%), ZENITHBANK (-0.5%) and OANDO (-3.7%) led to a 0.3% decline in the All-Share Index to 240,037.80 points. Consequently, the Month-to-Date and Year-to-Date returns settled at -2.1% and +54.3%, respectively.
The total volume traded advanced by 140.7% to 2.87 billion units, valued at NGN33.99 billion, and exchanged in 34,725 deals. FTGINSURE was the most traded stock by volume at 2.56 billion units and ARADEL was the most traded stock by value at NGN9.53 billion.
Sectoral performance was broadly negative as the Oil & Gas (-2.5%), Insurance (-0.8%) and Banking (-0.4%) indices declined while the Consumer Goods (+0.1%) index closed higher. The Industrial Goods Index closed flat.
As measured by market breadth, market sentiment was negative (0.5x), as 14 tickers gained relative to 20 losers. INTENEGINS (-9.9%) and WAPIC (-9.8%) led the laggards, while HMCALL (+9.4%) and TRANSEXPR (+8.9%) posted the most significant gains of the day.
CURRENCY
The official FX rate appreciated by 0.2% to NGN1,347.60/USD.
MONEY MARKET & FIXED INCOME
The overnight lending rate contracted by 25bps to 22.1%, in the absence of any significant funding pressure on the system.
The Treasury bill secondary market traded on a quiet note albeit with a bullish tilt as the average yield contracted by 1bp at 18.6%. Across the curve, the average yield contracted at the short (-1bp), mid (-1bp) and long (-1bp) segments, driven by demand for the 91DTM (-1bp), 175DTM (-1bp) and 273DTM (-28bps) bills, respectively. Similarly, the average yield contracted by 11bps to 20.9% in the OMO segment.
Elsewhere, activities in the FGN bond secondary market were bullish as the average yield contracted by 2bps to 16.6%. Across the curve, the average yield contracted at the short (-3bps) and mid (-3bps) segments driven by buying interests in the FEB-2031 (-7bps) and APR-2032 (-10bps) bonds, respectively. The average yield closed flat at the long segment.
