EQUITIES
The Nigerian equities market halted its four-day bullish streak as losses in ACCESSCORP (-5.2%), NASCON (-10.0%), UBA (-2.8%), and STANBIC (-2.0%) dragged the All-Share Index lower by 3bps to 246,019.81 points. Consequently, the Month-to-Date and Year-to-Date returns settled at 0.8% and +58.1%, respectively.
The total volume traded declined by 34.5% to 426.84 million units, valued at NGN28.44 billion, and exchanged in 41,475 deals. ACCESSCORP was the most traded stock by volume at 33.22 million units, while ARADEL was the most traded stock by value at NGN4.14 billion.
Sectoral performance was mixed, as the Banking (-0.6%), and Consumer Goods (-0.2%) indices declined, while the Insurance (+2.7%), Oil & Gas (+0.3%) and Industrial Goods (+0.2%) indices advanced.
As measured by market breadth, market sentiment was positive (1.1x), as 33 tickers gained relative to 29 losers. NASCON (-10.0%) and BETAGLAS (-10.0%) led the laggards, while TRIPPLEG (+10.0%) and SOVRENINS (+9.7%) posted the most significant gains of the day.
CURRENCY
The official FX rate appreciated by 0.1% to NGN1,328.15/USD.
MONEY MARKET & FIXED INCOME
The overnight lending rate expanded by 5bps to 22.2% in the absence of any significant inflow into the system.
The Treasury bill secondary market closed flat, as the average yield remained unchanged at 18.8%. Meanwhile, the average yield contracted by 11bps to 20.6% in the OMO segment.
The FGN bond secondary market traded on a bullish note as the average yield contracted by 2bps to 16.5%. Across the benchmark curve, the average yield contracted at the short (-3bps) and mid (-2bps) segments, driven by demand for the FEB-2031 (-12bps) and JUN-2033 (-7bps) bonds, respectively. The average yield closed flat at the long end.
