EQUITIES
The local bourse closed on a positive note today as gains in SEPLAT (+10.0%), TRANSCORP (+4.5%), GTCO (+1.5%) and ACCESSCORP (+5.7%) spurred a 0.1% increase in the All-Share Index to 242,378.13 points. Consequently, the Month-to-Date and Year-to-Date returns settled at -0.8% and +55.8%, respectively.
The total volume traded advanced by 161.8% to 1.40 billion units, valued at NGN27.14 billion, and exchanged in 46,218 deals. FTGINSURE was the most traded stock by volume at 1.03 billion units while ARADEL was the most traded stock by value at NGN5.34 billion.
Sectoral performance was mixed as the Oil & Gas (+0.8%) and Banking (+0.7%) indices advanced while the Consumer Goods (-1.0%) and Insurance (-0.4%) indices closed lower. The Industrial Goods index closed flat.
As measured by market breadth, market sentiment was negative (0.8x), as 23 tickers gained relative to 29 losers. SEPLAT (+10.0%) and JAPAULGOLD (+9.8%) led the gainers while RTBRISCOE (-10.0%) and ARADEL (-10.0%) posted the most significant losses of the day.
CURRENCY
The official FX rate depreciated by 0.1% to NGN1,329.63/USD.
MONEY MARKET & FIXED INCOME
The overnight lending rate expanded by 6bps to 22.3%, in the absence of any significant inflows into the system.
The Treasury bill secondary market traded on a quiet note albeit with a bullish tilt, as the average yield contracted by 1bp at 18.8%. Across the curve, the average yield contracted at the short (-1bp) and mid (-1bp) segments, driven by demand for the 91DTM (-1bp) and 182DTM (-1bp) bills, respectively, but remained unchanged at the long end. Likewise, the average yield contracted by 1bp to 20.4% in the OMO segment.
Elsewhere, activities in the FGN bond secondary market were quiet as the average yield remained unchanged at 16.3%.
