EQUITIES
The domestic bourse closed today’s trading session on a positive note, as gains in HBMNG (+1.5%), ZENITHBANK (+1.7%), NB (+4.4%) and NGXGROUP (+10.0%) caused the All-Share Index to close higher by 0.4% to 244,304.52 points. Consequently, the Month-to-Date closed flat, while Year-to-Date returns settled at +56.9%.
The total volume traded advanced by 17.8% to 505.12 million units, valued at NGN36.29 billion, and exchanged in 71,635 deals. MBENEFIT was the most traded stock by volume at 37.48 million units, while ARADEL was the most traded stock by value at NGN6.35 billion.
Sectoral performance was mixed, as the Oil & Gas (+3.8%), Consumer Goods (+1.1%), and Banking (+0.1%) indices advanced while the Industrial Goods (-0.6%) and Insurance (-0.2%) indices declined.
As measured by market breadth, market sentiment was positive (1.3x), as 34 tickers gained relative to 26 losers. NGXGROUP (+10.0%) and ARADEL (+9.6%) led the gainers, while TRANSEXPR (-9.9%) and AVACAP (-9.9%) posted the most significant losses of the day.
CURRENCY
The official FX rate depreciated by 0.3% to NGN1,330.40/USD.
MONEY MARKET & FIXED INCOME
The overnight lending rate contracted by 10bps to 22.2% in the absence of any significant inflows into the system.
The Treasury bill secondary market traded on a bullish note as the average yield contracted by 3bps to 18.8%. Across the curve, the average yield contracted at the short (-1bp), mid (-1bp) and long (-5bps) segments, driven by demand for the 87DTM (-1bp), 178DTM (-1bp) and 332DTM (-29bps) bills, respectively. Meanwhile, the average yield expanded by 6bps to 20.3% in the OMO segment.
Elsewhere, the FGN bond secondary market traded on a quiet note as the average yield closed flat at 16.3%. Across the curve, the average yield expanded at the short (+2bps) end driven by selling pressure on the FEB-2031 (+8bps) bond, but contracted at the long (-2bps) end, due to demand for the JUN-2053 (-10bps) bond. The mid segment closed flat.
