EQUITIES
The local bourse closed on bearish note as sell pressures in FIRSTHOLDCO (-2.3%), GTCO (-2.5%), ZENITH (-0.8%) and DANGSUGAR (-1.3%) dragged the All-Share Index lower by 0.1% to 247,513.63 points. Consequently, the Month-to-Date and Year-to-Date returns settled at -1.5% and +59.1%, respectively.
The total volume traded declined by 2.8% to 394.20 million units, valued at NGN21.38 billion, and exchanged in 38,707 deals. ACCESSCORP was the most traded stock by volume at 57.02 million units, while GTCO was the most traded stock by value at NGN3.13 billion respectively.
Sectoral performance was mixed as the Banking (-0.8%) and Insurance (-0.4%) indices declined, while the Consumer Goods (+0.1%) and Oil & Gas (+0.1%) indices advanced. Meanwhile, the Industrial Goods index closed flat.
As measured by market breadth, market sentiment was positive (1.1x), as 24 tickers gained relative to 21 losers. LEGENDINT (-6.9%) and OMATEK (-6.4%) led the losers, while ETRANZACT (+10.0%) and WAPIC (+7.8%) posted the most significant gains of the day.
CURRENCY
The official FX rate depreciated by 0.2% to NGN1,333.84/USD.
MONEY MARKET & FIXED INCOME
The overnight lending rate expanded by 9bps to 22.2% despite inflows from OMO maturities (NGN2.41 trillion).
The Treasury bill secondary market traded on a bullish note as the average yield contracted by 1bp to 17.9%. Across the curve, the average yield contracted at the short (-1bp), mid (-1bp) and long (-1bp) segments driven by the demand for 93DTM (-8bps), 163DTM (-1bp) and 359DTM (-5bps) bills, respectively. Meanwhile, the average yield expanded by 3bps to 18.6% in the OMO segment.
Elsewhere, the FGN bond secondary market traded on a bearish as the average yield expanded by 2bps to 15.9%. Across the benchmark curve, the average yield expanded at the short (+2bps), mid (+1bp), and long (+4bps) segments, driven by sell pressures on the MAR-2027 (+7bps), FEB-2034 (+16bps), and JUN-2036 (+20bps) bonds, respectively.
