First Bank Warns Customers against Fraudsters

First Bank Nigeria Limited  Thursday advised its customers to disregard emails from online scammers who are  in the habit of requesting them to send their internet banking details.

The bank also urged its customers not to respond to request by the fraudsters that they should provide sensitive information on their account details for Account Update.
The Head, Media and External Relations, Mr. Babatunde Lasaki, said this when he led some members of the bank’s corporate affairs department to THISDAY’s corporate head office in Lagos.

Lasaki said the bank had implemented proactive measures towards tackling fraudsters. According to him, once the bank gets report on such fraudulent mails to customers, it shuts down such websites.

Lasaki said: “What we do immediately we get such messages, we send out short message service (SMS) and e-mails and immediately we go after them and shut down their websites. We have an email address and anytime people get such scam emails, the IT people get them and immediately go after that website and shut it down.”

He further explained that the bank on several occasions had created awareness and campaign educating customers on phishing sites, fraudulent emails and expressed that the bank would continue to enlighten customers in the future.
