Nigerian Equities Extend Losses as NSEASI Dips -0.35%

The Nigerian equities market closed negative today as NSE-ASI decreased by 0.35% to close at 26,790.10pts.

Similarly, in today’s trade, market breadth index was negative with 26 losers against 19 gainers

CHIPLC (-10.00%) led the loser’s chart today while AGLEVENT (+10.00%) was the top gainer.

TRANSCORP (-0.98%)  was the most actively traded stock with about 26million units of shares worth about N27million. 

Sector Performance 

·         NSE Oil & Gas Index: Was down 1.07%, on the back of the loss in OANDO (-9.09%).

·         NSE Consumer Goods Index: Closed down by 0.20%, due to the declines in CADBURY (-8.16%), UNILEVER (-1.84%) and DANGSUGAR (-0.68%).

·         NSE Banking Index: Lost 0.49%, as a result of the sell-offs in JAIZBANK (-8.00%), FBNH (-6.47%), ACCESS (-3.76%), STERLNBANK (-3.50%) and WEMABANK (-1.37%)

·         NSE Industrial Index: Fell by 0.08%, due to the loss recorded in DANGCEM (-0.28%).

 The equities market closed down today as result of the losses recorded in all sectors. We still maintain our view that investors should take positions in quality names with a medium to long time investment horizon as prices remain attractive at current levels.
