Nigerian Stocks Sustain Negative Trend, Depreciates -0.59%

The Nigerian equities market closed negative today as NSE-ASI lost 0.59% to close at 29,378.63pts.

Similarly, in today’s trade, market breadth index was negative with 23 losers against 9 gainers.

ABCTRANS (-9.76%) was the top loser today while JBERGER (+9.93%)  led the gainers’ chart.                                                                                                 

STANBIC (-2.35%) was the most actively traded stock with about 43million units of shares worth about N1.79billion.

Sector Performance 

·         NSE Banking Index: Lost 2.18%, due to the sell-offs in FIDELITYBK (-4.95%), UBA (-4.84%), UNITYBNK (-4.76%) and WEMABANK (-2.78%).

·         NSE Industrial Index: Declined by 0.57%, due to the losses in WAPCO (-2.27%) and BUACEMENT (-0.53%).

·         NSE Oil & Gas Index: Fell by 1.35%, on the back of the decline in ETERNA (-8.77%), TOTAL (-8.55%) and OANDO (-2.93%).

·         NSE Consumer Goods Index: Dropped by 0.28%, as a result of the decrease in HONYFLOUR (-6.78%) and FLOURMILL (-5.79%).

The equities market closed down today as a result of the losses recorded in all sectors. We still maintain our view that investors should take positions in quality names with a medium to long time investment horizon as prices remain attractive at current levels.
