The Nigeria Labour Congress has threatened to go ahead with its decision to embark on nationwide picketing of the offices of the Union Bank of Nigeria Plc from February 14 to February 18, 2011.
The President of the NLC, Comrade Abdulwaheed Omar, said in an electronic mail on Thursday that the congress was ready to respond to what he described as an invitation to war by the management of UBN, led by Mrs. Funke Osibodu.
Omar said that the congress would carry out its threat to shut down all the branches of the bank in response to a threat allegedly issued by Osibodu during a meeting with workers of the bank that she would dismiss any member of staff found to be involved in the planned industrial action or associating with the NLC.
The NLC president said that the bank’s MD had taken further steps to carry out her alleged decision to “demystify’ the NLC by ordering the remittance of union dues deducted from the salaries of the workers to them, which according to him, had been carried out.
