What would the world be without women?

I am so excited to be writing to you on this spectacular day when women are specifically celebrated all over the world.

Women do so much for the world that it’s become very obvious that without women the world would be plain, bland, and without color.

African women play a central role in the continent’s agriculture sector. As the backbone of the sector, they represent 52% of the total population in the sector and are responsible for approximately 50% of the agricultural labour on farms in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA).

Women also produce 60% to 80% of the continent’s food. Counterintuitively, African women persistently remain an untapped opportunity in Agriculture – their level and quality of participation does not accrue to sustainable socio-economic development benefits.

Women described as farmers, livestock owners, workers, and entrepreneurs within the sector, consistently experience limited access to productive resources, compared to their male counterparts. (Women and Agriculture The Untapped Opportunity in the Wave of Transformation)

On this occasion, we want to urge all people everywhere to break whatever bias and stereotype that they hold against women.

This year’s theme speaks to the world at large about #BreakingTheBias

Imagine an environment without a woman for a second and you realize just how boring and unkempt that environment looks.

In the time past women were relegated to doing just house chores, and used to be regarded as “HouseWives” and it appeared like women were not good for much else besides pushing out babies but right now women are taking the front row seats; in business, entrepreneurship, innovation as well as founding great legacies.

There is still a lot to be done in that aspect and I know that we are a long way from equal representation but we are getting there gradually.

This year’s theme speaks to the world at large about #BreakingTheBias that many people hold and that limits the things that women are allowed to do or not to do.

Nobody has the right to put a cap on what you can or cannot do as a woman.

Today I am on behalf of the SUBA Capital team writing you to join my voice with that of many other women and I say to the world break the bias… women deserve to be what they want to be.

Just in case you are a woman who struggles with self-esteem and feels like you are not enough I am saying to you, YOU ARE MORE THAN ENOUGH…

I made a list of 10 women who are shattering the high glass ceilings just in case you are low on inspiration;

  1. Dr. Ola Brown (Naija Flying Doctor),
  2. Affiong Williams-Oviosu (Reel Fruits)
  3. Mira Mehta (Tomato Jos),
  4. Odun Emweniyi (PiggyVest),

  8. Ibukun Awosika, (Former Chairperson, First Bank Nigeria),
  9. Jane Oma (Geneva Business School),
